    Morton High School is named after Oliver P. Morton, the 14th governor of Indiana. Morton School was established in 1937 at its former location on Marshall Avenue in the Hessville section of Hammond. It became a four year school in 1954. The current Morton High School building was opened in 1968.

  4. The Public Works Administration (PWA) helped fund the construction of the Oliver Morton School in Hammond IN, which was completed in 1937. An addition was added in 1952 and when a new high school was built in 1967, this building became Morton Junior High (Middle School). It was demolished in 1991.
