John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl (c. 1437–1442 – 15 September 1512), also known as Sir John Stewart of Balveny, was a Scottish nobleman and ambassador.

John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl (1566-1603) was a Scottish landowner. John Stewart was sixth Lord Innermeath and made Earl of Atholl in 1596. His parents were James Stewart, 5th Lord Innermeath and Helen Ogilvy, a daughter of James Ogilvy, Lord Airlie, and Helen Sinclair.
Hace 6 días · John Stewart (6th Lord Innermeath) was ennobled as the Earl of Atholl in 1596 (9th Creation). Both titles became extinct upon the death of James Stewart, 2nd Earl of Atholl and 7th Lord Innermeath. John Stewart passed away in 1603.

John Stewart, 1st earl of Atholl, was an active supporter of his nephew, James III, when James ascended to the throne of Scotland in 1460. He served as royal lieutenant within Atholl, and in 1481 was granted the forest of Cluny and the park of Laighwood as a reward for his help in putting down the rebellion of John of the Isles. [6]
