Aarhus Teater offers theatrical plays and music theater on 4 stages in a variety of scales. In a season we have over 100.000 visitors. Being a theatre of and for the people, we offer a wide variety of performances from August - June.
The Aarhus Theatre (Danish: Aarhus Teater) in Aarhus, is the largest provincial theatre in Denmark. The present theatre house was constructed in the late 19th century, as a replacement for the old theatre, nicknamed " Svedekassen " (The Sweat-box).

The Aarhus Theatre (Aarhus Teater) in Aarhus is the largest provincial theatre in Denmark. The present theatre house constructed in the late 19th century as a replacement for the old theatre, nicknamed "Svedekassen". Since Aarhus had grown to be Jutland's biggest city during the 19th century, the old theatre had become too small for the public.
The new building was designed by the Danish architect Hack Kampmann (1856-1920), and the construction began on the 12 of August 1898. Only two years later the Theatre was completed, and it was inaugurated on the 15th of September 1900. A fairly small theatre in the old style. Not too much space, but a great atmosphere of anticipation and art. Have watched plays and musicals there and when the play is on the room seems bigger. Depending on the play and actors ... recommended for a true theatre experience.
