William Cavendish, Earl of Burlington (born 6 June 1969), professionally also known by the name Bill Burlington, is a British aristocrat, photographer, and the son and heir of the 12th Duke of Devonshire.
On 10 September 1831, the earldom of Burlington was revived when their third and youngest son Lord George Cavendish was created Baron Cavendish of Keighley, in the County of York, and Earl of Burlington, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.
So, in 1770, they leased the house to the Duke’s brother-in-law, William Cavendish-Bentinck, the 3rd Duke of Portland. Henry Cavendish (1731-1810) William Cavendish-Bentinck became the only UK Prime Minister to have switched political parties.

While Burlington House was occupied by the Cavendish family the scientist who discovered hydrogen, Henry Cavendish, lived there for several years in his youth.
