DEE DEE SHARP was born Dionne LaRue in Philadelphia in 1945 and broke the Billboard Hot 100 while still a teenager with Slow Twistin (performed with Chubby Checker) in 1963. Follow-up hits included Mashed Potato Time and Ride which both earned her Gold discs.
