Conceived in 1909 by the Indiana Knights of Columbus, and named for Fr. Pierre Gibault, the Gibault School for Boys was dedicated on October 9, 1921, in Terre Haute, Indiana as a "home for wayward boys". The first director of the school was Rev. Michael Gorman.

His mother sent him to the Gibault School for Boys in Terre Haute, Indiana. Gibault was a school for juvenile delinquents and was run by Catholic priests. A Childhood Behind Bars. Charles Manson fled Gibault twice. The first time returning to his mother who only sent him back.
From the original Smith Mansion, Gibault has grown to become a beautiful 360-acre campus. Gibault has expanded services from treating only “wayward boys” to providing a variety of residential and community-based treatment services to all genders, children, families, and members of the community.
From academics and sports to the arts and extra curriculars, students find their home at Gibault Catholic High School in Waterloo, Illinois.
