Lomond School was the result of a merger between Larchfield School (founded 1845 and previously called Larchfield Academy) and St Bride's School for Girls (founded 1895) in 1977. [7] Larchfield Academy (often called Larchfield School) was a preparatory school for boys in Colquhoun Street, Helensburgh and was founded in 1858. [8]
Established from the amalgamation of Larchfield Academy and St. Bride’s School for Girls, both of which date back to the 19th Century, Lomond School holds on to many of the traditions from our founding schools, whilst remaining true to our motto, Prospiciamus, ‘let us look forward’.

Among its famous pupils were author Sir James Frazer and TV inventor John Logie Baird. In the late 1920s and early 1930s Cecil Day-Lewis and W.H.Auden taught there briefly.

Wystan Hugh Auden was born in York, North Yorkshire, in 1907 as the son of George Augustus Auden, a distinguished physician, and Rosalie (Bicknell) Auden.
