Petrenko’s Munich Mahler 7th–Boulez Without the Warmth. When Pierre Boulez released his glacial evisceration of Mahler’s Seventh Symphony on DG, I found it eerily fascinating, if not necessarily convincing. It had two things going for it, though.
The Symphony No. 7 by Gustav Mahler is a symphony in five movements composed in 1904–05, sometimes referred to by the title Song of the Night (German: Lied der Nacht), which was not the composer's own designation.
Pierre Boulez's lucid and incisive conducting of the craggy Seventh proved a revelation.
