En 1970 toman el nombre de Earth, Wind & Fire en base al signo astrológico de Maurice White, Sagitario, que tiene una cualidad elemental primaria de fuego y cualidades estacionales de tierra y aire, según las triplicidades clásicas, de ahí la omisión del Agua, el cuarto elemento clásico.

Somewhat their equivalent to Santana's all-star Grammy-winning smash, Supernatural, Maurice and the guys settled into a contemporary soul vein, updating elements of their classic style with modern flourishes.
