He was born in Dessau, the son of Duke Eduard of Anhalt (1861–1918) and Princess Louise Charlotte of Saxe-Altenburg (1873–1953), the daughter of Prince Moritz of Saxe-Altenburg .
8 de may. de 2018 · He came to the throne in September 1918 when he was 17-years-old. As he was underage, his father’s brother Prince Aribert of Anhalt served as Regent. With the German Empire crumbling at the end of World War I, Aribert abdicated on Joachim Ernst’s behalf on November 12, 1918.

Biography. Joachim Ernst was born at Dessau on 21 October 1536, the second son of Johann IV, Fürst (Prince) von Anhalt-Zerbst, and his wife Margareta von Brandenburg. He succeeded his elder brother Karl, as Prince of Anhalt in Zerbst, Bernburg and Köthen in 1561.
