Mary Elizabeth Pitt, Countess of Chatham (2 September 1762 – 21 May 1821), formerly Mary Elizabeth Townshend, was an English noblewoman and political campaigner. Her husband was John Pitt, 2nd Earl of Chatham .

Mary Elizabeth Townsend (23 July 1841 - 14 June 1918) was a British philanthropist and co-founder of the Girls' Friendly Society. Honington Hall, her home for most of her life
In July 1783, he married Mary, the second daughter of Thomas Townshend who had been a political ally of his father. It was a love match, rather than an arranged marriage. Mary was known as attractive and very fashionable in society, although she was to suffer from physical and mental illness throughout their marriage.

Robert Marsham was the son of Charles Marsham, the second Earl of Romney (1777-1845) and his second wife Mary Elizabeth Townshend (d.1847) who was the daughter of John Thomas Townshend, the second Viscount Sydney of St Leonards (1764-1831).
