  5. Daniel Webster was born on January 18, 1782, in Salisbury, New Hampshire. His father, Ebenezer Webster, was a farmer who served as a soldier in the French and Indian War and the American Revolution and later became a respected Justice of the Peace.

He served in the old French war under Sir Jeffrey Amherst, and in 1761 was one of the first settlers in what is now Franklin, N. H., then the most northern of the New England settlements.
