John Augustus Roebling (born Johann August Röbling; June 12, 1806 – July 22, 1869) was a German-born American civil engineer. He designed and built wire rope suspension bridges , in particular the Brooklyn Bridge , which has been designated as a National Historic Landmark and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark .

With the Brooklyn Bridge completed, Roebling and his family moved to Troy, New York, where his son John A. Roebling II attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After John’s graduation in 1888, the family returned to Trenton.
The oldest standing American suspension bridge is the one built by John Augustus Roebling in 1848 near Port Jervis, New York. It is now part of Delaware National Historic Recreation Area. Roebling helped make America the land of great suspension bridges where most of the world’s suspension bridges are found.

Er wurde am 12. Juni 1806 in Mühlhausen in Preußen, HRR (heute Deutschland) geboren und verstarb am 22.
