Brigadier-General Thomas Pakenham, 5th Earl of Longford, KP, MVO (19 October 1864 – 21 August 1915), known as Lord Silchester until 1887, was an Irish peer and soldier.

Thomas Francis Dermot Pakenham, 8th Earl of Longford (born 14 August 1933), known simply as Thomas Pakenham, is an Anglo-Irish historian and arborist who has written several prize-winning books on the diverse subjects of African history, Victorian and post-Victorian British history, and trees.
Thomas Pakenham, 5th Earl of Longford, K.P., M.V.O. was born 19 October 1864. He married Lady Mary Julia Child Villiers (daughter of the 7th Earl of Jersey). They had 6 children: Edward, Frank, Violet, Mary, Pansy and Julia.

Michael's daughter Elizabeth Cuffe married Thomas Pakenham, of Pakenham Hall, just outside Castlepollard, County Westmeath, in 1739. Thomas represented Longford Borough in the Irish House of Commons.
19 October 1864. - 21 August 1915. Killed in action aged 50. No known grave. Thomas Packenham was born in Dublin to the 4th Earl and his wife, Selina Rice-Trevor. He succeeded to the title on the death of his father in 1887. He was educated at Winchester, and came up to Christ Church in 1881.
