Born into Anglo-Irish aristocracy in London, his father was the 7th Marquess of Waterford and died, several months after Beresford was born, in a shooting accident. He was educated at Eton College and Sandhurst.

  4. He died on 18 March 2020 aged 85 following a period of ill health. Lord Patrick was the Club’s first Polo Manager – as a young Lieutenant in the Blues and Royals in 1955 – and remained a passionate supporter of the Club until his death.
