Ruskin College – originally known as Ruskin Hall, Oxford – was established in 1899 specifically to provide educational opportunities for working-class men, who were denied access to university.
Ruskin College was founded in 1899 by two Americans who studied at Oxford University and decided that the same level of education should be available to everyone, not just the elite. The College is named after John Ruskin, a radical pioneer of socialist thought. Ruskin has enjoyed some remarkable episodes in its history.
