The genesis of Faith No More was the group Sharp Young Men, formed in 1979, by vocalist Mike Morris and keyboardist Wade Worthington. Drummer Mike Bordin and bassist Billy Gould joined afterwards. Morris called the name "a piss-take on all the 'elegant' groups at the time".
The band, consisting of Mike Morris, Billy Gould, Wade Worthington, and Mike Bordin, first formed in 1979 under the name Faith No Man, recording just one release. Wade left shortly afterward and was replaced by Roddy Bottum .

Jim Martin Guitar 1983-93. Faith No More was originally formed as Sharp Young Men in 1979 by Bay Area, California musicians bassist Billy Gould, drummer Mike "Puffy" Bordin, vocalist Mike "The Man" Morris, and keyboardist Wade Worthington. Later on they changed their name to Faith No Man.
