Sir Edward Montagu (c. 1530 – 26 January 1602) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1559. Career. Montagu was the eldest surviving son of Sir Edward Montagu of Boughton House, near Kettering and his third wife Helen Roper, daughter of John Roper of Well Hall, Eltham.

Sir Edward Montagu (c. 1488 – 10 February 1557) of Boughton, Hanging Houghton and Hemington in Northamptonshire was an English lawyer and judge in the time of Henry VIII and Edward VI. He was Chief Justice of the King's Bench from 1539 to 1545 and Chief Justice of the Common Pleas from 1545 to 1553.
One, Henry Montagu †, was created earl of Manchester in 1626, the other, Edward Montagu †, father of the subject of this article, was created Baron Montagu of Boughton in 1621. Montagu was brought up believing firmly in the family myth of his clan’s antiquity, a conceit that was no doubt underscored by his extensive connections.
