Ingrid Croce (née Jacobson, born April 27, 1947) is an American author, singer-songwriter and restauranteur. Between 1964 and 1971, Ingrid performed as a duo with her husband, Jim Croce, releasing the album Jim & Ingrid Croce in 1969.
Ingrid Croce became an artist at eight-years-old, laying stitches in her grandmother’s Philadelphia dress shop. When, as a teenager, Ingrid lost both of her parents to illness, she turned to collage to organize personal chaos.
At twenty years old, Jim Croce was a charismatic and romantic Italian-Catholic troubadour who just happened to be driving down the street where I’d lodged my car in a snowbank. He caught my sixteen-year-old self in his headlights. Late for a talent competition – and with a backseat full of cadets!
It’s likely that no musician is more identified with San Diego than the late Jim Croce. His face and surname are among the most visible images in downtown San Diego, thanks to his wife, Ingrid Croce, for her restaurant and her tireless dedication to preserving Jim Croce’s legacy.
