9 de oct. de 2017 · Township art has been an integral part of South Africa’s long struggle for freedom and was, in effect, shaped and moulded by the politics of social change. Aspirant black artists chose to depict their oppressive realities in robust, colourful artworks which were, and still are, completely unique to the region.
This paper explores and compares three different uses of art in South Africa surrounding the struggle against apartheid. During apartheid, many local artists used art as an effective weapon against the apartheid regime, creating reproducible pieces.
