Evelyn Clark Colfax (1823 in Argyle, Washington County, New York – July 10, 1863 in Newport, Rhode Island) was the first wife of Schuyler Colfax, an American politician who later became Speaker of the House of Representatives and Vice President of the United States serving as the first vice president of Ulysses S. Grant .

On October 10, 1844, he married his childhood friend Evelyn Clark. She died in 1863; they had no children. On November 18, 1868, two weeks after winning the vice presidency, he married Ellen (Ella) M. Wade (1836–1911), a niece of Senator Benjamin Wade.

Schuyler’s political career began in earnest after his marriage to Evelyn Clark in 1844. As Schuyler was anti-slavery, he eventually left the Whig party and helped build the newly formed Republican Party. By 1854 Schuyler was elected to Congress, and in 1863 he became Speaker of the House of Representatives.
