Brodie Leonidas Duke (September 17, 1846 – February 2, 1919) was an American entrepreneur, often credited with starting the tobacco manufacturing industry in Durham, North Carolina. Founder of Semper Idem, and co-founder of W. Duke, Sons & Co., Brodie produced and sold tobacco products across North Carolina for over 20 years.
Brodie Duke, the eldest of Washington Duke's children, was the first of the Duke clan to recognize the potential of Durham in expanding tobacco production and transport. Brodie was born in 1846, the second child of Washington Duke and Mary Caroline Clinton. His mother died when he was 1.

Brodie Leonidas Duke. Brodie Duke was the second son born to George Washington Duke and Mary Caroline Clinton Duke. His mother died about a year after his birth. An older brother, Sydney Taylor Duke, lived less than ten years. He was involved in the various Duke family business ventures.

In 1842, Washington Duke married Mary Caroline Clinton and moved onto land given to them by her family. The couple had two sons, Sidney Taylor Duke (b. 1844) and Brodie Leonidas Duke (b. 1846). During this time Washington’s younger brother, Robert, came to live with the family and is listed as a student on the 1850 census.
