Georg Karl August Uihlein (August 25, 1842 – October 11, 1911) was a German-American brewer, business executive, and horse breeder. Early life. August Uihlein was born Georg Karl August Ühlein [3] in 1842 in Wertheim am Main, Grand Duchy of Baden, which is now in Germany. He had a brother, Henry Uihlein. [4]
Many descendants of August Uihlein remained active with the company and the brewing industry at large. Robert Uihlein Jr., grandson of August Uihlein, served as an executive at the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, becoming president in 1961 and chairman in 1967.
Uihlein, August 1842 - 1911. brewer, business executive, b. Wertheiman-Main, Baden, Germany. He migrated to the U.S. and to Milwaukee in 1850, where he attended the German-English Academy. Uihlein also attended St. Louis Univ. in Missouri (1855-1857), and after leaving school, was employed in the Uhrig brewery in St. Louis (1857-1867).
