Nacida en Nápoles, en 1852 de una ilustre familia, Emmanuela Pignatelli di Cergharia era una auténtica condesa, hija del duque Dio Regina, embajador de Nápoles en Rusia, y de una “devota romana”, como dijera el escritor francés Armand Lanoux.
