Edwin Myers Shawn, conocido artísticamente como Ted Shawn, (Kansas City, Misuri; 21 de octubre de 1891-Orlando, 9 de enero de 1972) fue un bailarín, coreógrafo y maestro estadounidense, pionero de la danza moderna masculina. Creó la Escuela Denishawn junto con su esposa Ruth Saint Denis.

There are a number of “firsts” achieved by Ted Shawn during his lifetime: The first American man to achieve a world reputation in dance, as seen here in a famous solo. Conceived, choreographed and appeared in one of the first dance films, the Thomas Edison Company’s Dances of the Agesin 1912.
Ted Shawn, often called the “Father of American Dance,” was so sure about his place in cultural history that before his death in 1972, he drafted a letter to future biographers listing what topics should be written about him and the order in which they should be written. But none of those books ever came.
