Shyam Benegal (born 14 December 1934) is an Indian film director, screenwriter and documentary filmmaker. Often regarded as the pioneer of parallel cinema, he is widely considered as one of the greatest filmmakers post 1970s.
Shyam Benegal (Trimulgherry, Estado de Hyderabad, Raj británico -hoy Telangana, India, 14 de diciembre de 1934) es un director de cine y guionista indio. Con sus primeros cuatro largometrajes, Ankur (1974), Nishant (1975), Manthan (1976) y Bhumika (1977), formó parte de un nuevo género, que ahora se conoce como el "cine intermedio" en la India.
