Sir Matthew Hale SL (1 November 1609 – 25 December 1676) was an influential English barrister, judge and jurist most noted for his treatise Historia Placitorum Coronæ, or The History of the Pleas of the Crown.
Sir Matthew Hale was one of the greatest scholars on the history of English common law, well known for his judicial impartiality during England’s Civil War (1642–51). He also played a major role in the law-reform proposals of the Convention Parliament and in promoting Charles II’s restoration.
