Kestnergesellschaft, Hanover. Kestner Gesellschaft (Kestner Society) is an art institution in Hanover, Germany, founded in 1916 to promote the arts. Its founders included the painter Wilhelm von Debschitz (1871–1948). The association blossomed under the management of Alexander Dorner [ de] and Justus Bier [ de], pioneering modern art.

Founded in 1916 by Hanoverians as an exhibition hall for 20th century art, today it is – with almost 4000 members – among the largest and internationally best known German art associations. Banned by the Nazis in 1936, the society was re-formed with a new base in Warmbüchenstrasse in 1948.
