Alvin Batiste Sr. (November 7, 1932 – May 6, 2007) was an American avant-garde jazz clarinetist, who was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. He taught at his own jazz institute at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Alvin Batiste is a member of the Batiste Family of New Orleans.
Alvin Batiste is regarded as one of the major instrumentalists of our time. His performances range from concerts at the Joe Papp Theatre, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Sweet Basils, Carlosi and the Bottom Line in New York to the Theatre Boulange in Paris.

7 de may. de 2007 · Clarinetist Alvin Batiste died May 6 of an apparent heart attack. He was 74. Batiste died only hours before he was scheduled to perform with Harry Connick Jr. and Branford Marsalis on the final day of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
