Don Van Vliet, nacido como Don Glen Vliet y conocido como Captain Beefheart (Glendale, California; 15 de enero de 1941–Arcata, California; 17 de diciembre de 2010), fue un músico de rock y pintor estadounidense.
Don Van Vliet ( / væn ˈvliːt /; born Don Glen Vliet; [2] January 15, 1941 – December 17, 2010) was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist best known by the stage name Captain Beefheart. Conducting a rotating ensemble known as the Magic Band, he recorded 13 studio albums between 1967 and 1982.

Beefheart explora más bien una especie de viaje al centro del núcleo del blues más orgánico, y a un paso de la impostación de lo negro dirige las canciones sobre un recitado intransigente, regodeándose al centro de un chillante juego de guitarras y armónica y un ritmo, eso sí, con un toque boogie sardónico.
