Howard Elliott Ashman (17 de mayo de 1950 - 14 de marzo de 1991) fue un dramaturgo y letrista estadounidense. [1] Ashman estudió en la universidad de Boston y en el Goddard College (pasando por el Teatro de Verano de la Universidad de Tufts) y después obtuvo una maestría en la universidad de Indiana en 1974.
Howard Elliott Ashman (May 17, 1950 – March 14, 1991) was an American playwright, lyricist and stage director. He is most widely known for his work on feature films for Walt Disney Animation Studios, for which Ashman wrote the lyrics and Alan Menken composed the music.

Howard Ashman was a native of Baltimore who grew up loving MUSIC. In 1974, after graduating from Goddard College in Vermont and receiving his MFA from Indiana University—where he was also a member of the professional acting company—Ashman moved to New York.
