Lawrence Lewis (April 4, 1767 – November 20, 1839) was a Virginia planter, possibly best known as the nephew of George Washington, who married Nelly Custis, a granddaughter of Martha Washington, and as one of the executors of the late president's estate.
Lawrence Lewis was George Washington's nephew, the son of Washington's sister Betty. Lewis assisted his uncle with the management of Mount Vernon after Washington's retirement from the Presidency, beginning in August 1797. After George Washington's death in 1799, Lewis helped Martha Washington in the same capacity until 1802.

10 de jun. de 2015 · Lawrence Lewis was born on April 4, 1767, the ninth child of Fielding and Betty Lewis and nephew of George Washington. His birth was noted by Fielding in the Lewis family bible, “Our Ninth a Son named Lawrence born the 4 th of April 1767.
This collection (269 letters) includes correspondence regarding family matters, farm business, legal questions about various wills, including that of George Washington, buying and selling of slaves and land, letters from friends, travels, and business interests.
In 1799, Washington gifted the Dogue Run Farm to his nephew, Lawrence Lewis, and his step-granddaughter, Nelly Parke Custis. The mansion house, designed by Dr. William Thornton and built between 1800-1805, was the focal point of the 2000-acre Woodlawn plantation.
Nelly would find a husband within just a few years. On George Washington’s final birthday, February 22, 1799, she married his nephew, Lawrence Lewis, who had become part of the Mount Vernon household shortly after the family returned at the end of the presidency.
