Thomas Baring. Thomas Baring (7 September 1799 – 18 November 1873) was a British banker and Conservative Party politician. Background and education. Baring was the second son of Sir Thomas Baring, 2nd Baronet, and Mary Ursula, daughter of Charles Sealy.

Thomas Baring was a managing partner of the firm from 1828 and was also a member of Parliament from 1844 until his death. His elder brother, Sir Francis Thornhill Baring (1796–1866), was a member of Parliament from 1826 to 1865 and also served as chancellor of the Exchequer (1839–41) and first lord of the Admiralty (1849–52).
Francis Baring was the father of Sir Thomas Baring, 2nd Baronet, and grandfather to Francis Baring, 1st Baron Northbrook. He was also father to Alexander Baring, 1st Baron Ashburton , and through his third son Henry Baring the grandfather of Edward Baring, 1st Baron Revelstoke , and Evelyn Baring, 1st Earl of Cromer .

Thomas Baring was born in 1799, the second son of Sir Thomas Baring, 2nd bt. He began his picture collection in 1835 and constantly added to it until two years before his death in 1873. He purchased his father's Italian, Spanish, and French paintings in 1848, which were sold on his father's death by terms of his father's will.
