Johan Rudolph Thorbecke (14 January 1798 – 4 June 1872) was a Dutch liberal statesman, one of the most important Dutch politicians of the 19th century. Thorbecke is best known for heading the commission that drafted the revision of the Constitution of the Netherlands in 1848, amidst the liberal democratic revolutions of 1848.

Johan Rudolph Thorbecke ( Zwolle, 14 januari 1798 – Den Haag, 4 juni 1872) was een Nederlands staatsman van liberale signatuur. Hij wordt als de grondlegger van het parlementarisme in Nederland beschouwd. Levensloop tot 1848. Gevelsteen Thorbeckegracht 11 in Zwolle, waar Thorbecke op 14 januari 1798 geboren werd.

The liberal politician Johan Rudolf Thorbecke (1798-1872), is celebrated as the founder of the present-day constitution of the Netherlands. Prior to entering the political arena Thorbecke pursued an academic career. He became a professor of philosophy and literature at Ghent University in 1825.
