Sir Charles Stanley, 4th Viscount Monck (born Oct. 10, 1819, Templemore, County Tipperary, Ire.—died Nov. 29, 1894, Charleville, County Wicklow) was the first governor-general of the Dominion of Canada (1866–68). Monck was educated at Trinity College in Dublin and was called to the bar in 1841.
