Edmund Pendleton Gaines (1777-1849) was a soldier in the U.S. Army who arrested former U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr in Washington County, in what is now Alabama, in 1807. Gaines served in the War of 1812, the Seminole Wars, and the Black Hawk War and was promoted to the rank of brevet major general.
