Count Andrey Artamonovich Matveev (Russian: Андрей Артамонович Матвеев) (1666–1728) was a Russian statesman of the Petrine epoch best remembered as one of the first Russian ambassadors and Peter the Great's agent in London and The Hague.

Andrey Matveev Biography. Andrey Matveev's gift for painting was first noted by Peter the Great and in 1716 he was sent to Holland and Flanders to study art. He spent 11 years there and was the first Russian painter educated exclusively in Europe.
From c.1731, he was the head of a team of painters who worked on several architectural projects, including interiors at the Peter and Paul Cathedral and a triumphal arch in honor of Empress Anna Ivanovna. His early death is believed to be the result of his heavy work load.
