Walram I of Nassau, German: Walram I. von Nassau (c. 1146 – 1 February 1198), also known as Walram I of Laurenburg, was Count of Nassau and is the oldest Nassau whose ancestorship is absolutely certain. He managed to expand his territory considerably during his reign. He took part in the Third Crusade.
28 de feb. de 2022 · In documents from 1176-1191 he is mentioned as Count of Laurenburg, in another one of 1193 as Count of Nassau. He took part in the Third Crusade (1189-1192) under Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa. He was married with a certain Kunigunde, who supervived him. He is seen as the primogenitor of the (now extinct) dynasty Nassau.

Robert was the first person to call himself Count of Nassau, but the title was not confirmed until 1159, five years after Robert's death. Robert's son Walram I (1154–1198) was the first person to be legally titled Count of Nassau.
By the 12th century the local counts of Laurenburg had established themselves near the town of Nassau, and Walram (died 1198) was the first of them to assume the title count of Nassau. His grandsons divided the inheritance: Walram II took the southern portion of Nassau, and Otto I took the northern portion.

In 1255, after the Counts of Nassau acquired the estates of Weilburg, the sons of Count Henry II divided Nassau for the first time. Walram II received the county of Nassau-Weilburg . From 1328 on, his younger brother, Otto I , held the estates north of the Lahn river, namely the County of Nassau-Siegen and Nassau-Dillenburg .
