George I, Duke of Brieg (Brzeg) (Polish: Jerzy I brzeski; 1481 or 1483 – 30 May 1521), was a Duke of Legnica during 1488-1505 (with his brother as co-ruler) and of Brzeg (Brieg) since 1505 until his death.

His married his first cousin Sophia at Celle on 22nd November 1682. The marriage was dissolved in 1694.
George I was crowned on 20th October 1714. He could not speak very much English and the ceremonies had to be conducted mostly in Latin as his ministers could not speak German.
He died on 22nd June 1727 while on a visit to Germany and was buried in Hanover. In 1957 his coffin was moved to the mausoleum at Herrenhausen.
George I, Duke of Brieg, was a Duke of Legnica during 1488-1505 and of Brzeg since 1505 until his death. He was the third and youngest son of Frederick I, Duke of Chojnów-Oława-Legnica-Brzeg-Lubin, by his wife Ludmila, daughter of George of Poděbrady, King of Bohemia.
