Ayub Shah Durrani (Persian/Pashto: ایوب شاه درانی), also known as Ayub Shah Abdali, son of Timur Shah Durrani, ruled Afghanistan from 1819 to 1823. He was an Afghan from the Pashtun ethnic group.
The Durrani Empire or the Afghan Empire, also known as the Sadozai Kingdom, was an Afghan empire that was founded by Durrani tribe of Pashtuns, under the Ahmad Shah Durrani in 1747, that spanned parts of Central Asia, the Iranian plateau, and the Indian subcontinent.

Shuja Shah Durrani (also known as Shāh Shujāʻ, Shah Shujah, Shoja Shah, Shujah al-Mulk) (c. 4 November 1785 – 5 April 1842) was ruler of the Durrani Empire from 1803 to 1809. He then ruled from 1839 until his death in 1842.

Ayub Shah Durrani, the seventh ruler of his line, lost Kabul to his distant cousins, the Barakzai in 1823. The head of the latter, Azim Khan, assumed the title of Amir and attempted to extend control over the rest of the country.
The Durrani empire was one of the largest Islamic empires in the world at that time. The Durrani Empire is often considered the origin of the state of Afghanistan and Ahmad Shah Durrani is credited with establishing the modern nation-state of Afghanistan.
