  3. HENRY MANNERS, second Earl of Rutland (d. 1563), was eldest son of Thomas Manners, first earl of Rutland and Lord Ros, by Eleanor, daughter of Sir William Paston. He is stated by Doyle [ Official Baronage] to have been born before 1526, but most probably he was born before 1515.

  6. The quartered chief, with the fleurs-de-lis of France and lion passant guardant of England, was granted as an augmentation by King Henry VIII to Thomas Manners at the time of his creation as Earl of Rutland, in recognition of his descent in the maternal line from King Edward III.
