Vladimir of Staritsa (Pavel Kadochnikov) – Vladimir, Efrosinia's adult son, with the mind of a child, is the main challenger to Ivan as tsar. He is Ivan's cousin but has none of his intelligence, forcefulness, or drive, and is content to drink and listen to his mother sing.

After the metropolitan's intercession, however, Vladimir and his mother regained Staritsa in December 1540, and the cousins spent the next few years together at court.1 In contrast to his father's policy, Ivan allowed Vladimir, next in the line of succession, to marry before he himself had a son.
The principality was ruled by Ivan III's son Andrey, and then by Andrey's son Vladimir. While Ivan the Terrible had no children, Vladimir was regarded by boyars as his only heir. As the Tsar suspected Staritsa's ruler of plotting against him, Vladimir and his children were forced to take poison.
