Louis Nicolas Vauquelin FRS (For) H FRSE (16 May 1763 – 14 November 1829) was a French pharmacist and chemist. He was the discoverer of both chromium and beryllium . Early life. Vauquelin was born at Saint-André-d'Hébertot in Normandy, France, the son of Nicolas Vauquelin, an estate manager, and his wife, Catherine Le Charterier. [1]

21 de may. de 2024 · Vauquelin is best known for his discovery of the elements chromium and beryllium. In 1798, while working with a red lead mineral from Siberia known as crocolite, he isolated the new element chromium – so called because its compounds are very highly colored.
In 1797 he discovered the element chromium, detecting it in a lead ore from Siberia. The following year, 1798, he discovered beryllim. Vauquelin's other chemical discoveries included quinic acid, asparagine, which was the first amino acid to be isolated and camphoric acid.
