Whitson (Ph.D.), an Iowa native, completed two six-month tours of duty and a third, nearly one year mission, aboard the International Space Station. She served as the station commander during her second flight for Expedition 16 and her third for Expedition 51.
Peggy Annette Whitson (born February 9, 1960) is an American biochemistry researcher, and astronaut working for Axiom Space. She retired from NASA in 2018, after serving as Chief Astronaut. Over all her missions, Whitson has a total of 665 days in space, more than any other American or woman.
