Johann Adam Schall von Bell (1 May 1591 – 15 August 1666) was a German Jesuit, astronomer and instrument-maker. He spent most of his life as a missionary in China (where he is remembered as "Tang Ruowang") and became an adviser to the Shunzhi Emperor of the Qing dynasty.

Schall arrived in China in 1622, having been trained in Rome in the astronomical system of Galileo. He soon impressed the Chinese with the superiority.

Johann Adam Schall von Bell was one Jesuit (1592-1666) heavily involved in the drama surrounding the imperial court. He had entered the Jesuits in 1611 and arrived in China in 1619. By 1630 he was working as an astronomer in Beijing, having replaced Johannes Terrentius Schreck (1576-1630) who had died earlier in the year.
