Charles Kuen Kao ( Shanghái, 4 de noviembre de 1933- Hong Kong, 23 de septiembre de 2018) fue un ingeniero eléctrico, profesor e investigador chino nacionalizado británico pionero en el desarrollo y uso de la fibra óptica en telecomunicaciones .

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2009 was divided, one half awarded to Charles Kuen Kao "for groundbreaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibers for optical communication", the other half jointly to Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith "for the invention of an imaging semiconductor circuit - the CCD sensor"

2 de may. de 2024 · Erik Gregersen. Charles Kao was a physicist who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2009 for his discovery of how light can be transmitted through fibre-optic cables. He shared the prize with physicists Willard Boyle and George E. Smith, who won for their work in inventing the charge-coupled device (CCD).
Charles Kao fue un destacado ingeniero chino, cuyos avances en la mitad del siglo XX fueron fundamentales para el desarrollo de Internet. Considerado “ el padre de la fibra óptica ”, nació el 4 de noviembre de 1933, por eso mismo Google decidió homenajearlo con su tradicional doodle.
