29 de sept. de 2017 · Marin spent the summers of 1929 and 1930 in Taos, New Mexico, and produced 100 watercolors that were shown to great acclaim at Stieglitz’s gallery An American Place in 1930 and 1931. Renowned as a watercolorist, in the 1930s he began to work more extensively in oils.
One of the first American artists to explore abstract painting, John Marin created a gestural and fractured style that captured conflicting forces of urban and natural environments through his impactful impressions of the skyscrapers and bridges of Manhattan, and the sea, sky, and mountains of New England.
Biography. Painter, early modernist who worked in watercolors, oils and etching. His style was semi-abstract and expressionistic, though always rooted in natural forms and rhythms. In 1950 he became the first American to be given an exhibition at the Venice Biennale.
