  3. Biography. Bertha B. Lum was born Bertha Boynton Bull in may 1869 in Typton, Iowa. Her father was Joseph W. Bull (1841-1923) and her mother Harriet Ann Boynton (1842-1925). Joseph W. Bull was practicing Law and Harriet Boynton had been a school teacher in Ohio and Iowa. In 1900 Bertha and her family was living in Duluth.
