Born in Berlin as a Prussian Jew and the grandson of Moses Mendelssohn during the era of the French revolution, Philipp Veit witnesses many historical events during his life. His mother Brendel Veit divorces her Jewish husband and converts to Catholicism together with the cultural philosopher Friedrich Schlegel.
