Stylistically my art is best described as “Imaginative Realism”. Most closely allied to the scope and feeling of what is referred to as contemporary “Visionary Art”, my gallery art is intentionally imbued with a strong sense of the mystical or dreamlike, and is suffused with symbolic content.

As the decade progressed Michael Whelan concentrated on his fine art paintings and sold several large works, but he didn’t forget the SF world. In August, 2007 he was the American Artist Guest of Honor of the first World Science Fiction Convention held in Japan.

Los mundos de Michael son majestuosos, bien sean imponentes o placenteros, con una profundidad que habla tanto del viaje emocional del héroe como de su viaje físico. Dice: Cuando recibí el manuscrito de Tor me sentí un poco abrumado. ¡1400 páginas! Sentí que iba a ser difícil trabajar a mi manera en tan enorme relato de fantasía épica.
